The Court of Appeal today overturned a High Court judgement blocking the proposed 6-month trial of a segregated cycle path on Strand Road, in Dublin’s Sandymount area.
The council originally sought to introduce the two-way cycle lane back in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, but was opposed by individuals in the Strand Road area who didn’t like the fact that motor traffic on the road would be reduced to a one-way system.
They successfully petitioned the High Court to block the introduction of the safe segregated cycle path in 2021. Dublin Council subsequently appealed the injunction, and the Court of Appeal released their judgement today overturning the injunction. They stated that the Council did not need planning permission to the cycle path.
